Just another day, yesterday: grading, a visit to Byzantium, dinner at Wagamama, seeing Doctor Atomic with C. - and the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal burning. C. was on one side of the exclusion zone, and I was on the other, which complicated meeting up for a bit.

The fire grew much worse later.

Fire in East London

A few minutes after noon, S. looked out the window. "What's the dark cloud?" I looked out the part of the window I could see. Clear blue skies.

She obviously saw one though, though, so I came over to see it. And there it was: dark, dense, unrolling over London.

The fire was several miles away, despite appearances.
