A few minutes after noon, S. looked out the window. "What's the dark cloud?" I looked out the part of the window I could see. Clear blue skies.

She obviously saw one though, though, so I came over to see it. And there it was: dark, dense, unrolling over London.

Smoke over London

The fire was several miles away, despite appearances.

glad it wasn't as bad as it looked. Here's the Random Evening Standard Headline Generator to provide paranoid comments.

This made the Japanese papers, actually. (Or at least, the Asahi Shimbun I bought yesterday. Lead: "Mistaken for terror attack!" Buried in the international section, if I'm recalling right.)
