The other day, I noted that the new Playmobil catalog had come out. Several people thus discovered the existence of the Roman set, much of which came out this past July. I only own one thing from this range (so far....), and that's the Roman with the altar.

whatifoundthere didn't notice it, so here are some pictures.

However, it can be easily adapted to look more like this:

Bonus: It comes with a scroll in Real Latin. (This is particularly notable since most Playmobil books and scrolls are written in indecipherably small pseudowriting.)

Your life is not complete without a Colosseum of your own? (That's the other Roman one I most covet. Although, surely a self-respecting historian of technology ought to have a quadriga?)

I like the Real Latin!

I love that it reads "Nunc est bibendum"! I wish it said after that "Nec mora nec requies." (Of course, this is because the drinking is going to be of the about-to-be-slaughtered pigeon(?)'s blood.)

At least it's implied!

Translation please!
I think it begins with something about throwing this in with a grain of salt?

They're all famous Latin phrases. You'll know some of them at least - Carpe diem?

I also have eight overflowing beer mugs from them. The spills around the mug bases optionally snap on. You can tell it's not an American company!

P.S. Praise where praise is due - obviously you DID recognize some of it, but then gave up before you got to other recognizable parts.

Yes, I can pick out various bits of it, but I was trying to read it as a single paragraph, rather than just as a collection of sayings, because although i still remember bits of vocabulary, my grasp of Latin grammar is non-existant! :-)

Seriously cool! OK, even more coolth points if it hadn't been mottoes but something bloodcurdling instead, but actual Real Latin is prett darned cool even so.

I need that. Now.

I didn't have Playmobil as a child either. I discovered it in grad school.

I need to get enough soldiers to assembly an entire Roman Legion.

My parents' basement has a huge bin full of Playmobile ...

Now I have to go and look at it ...

I've been researching the texts on Playmo scrolls and think that the one written in Arabic is decipherable, if one reads Arabic. I think that there are other texts that are real as well. I've been Googling around to try to find more info about this. I have taken photos of some of the other texts if you are interested.
