I believe it was
purplecthulhu who, last week, said that there are only 1000 people in the world. We all spend our spare time runnning around, playing the part of extras in other peoples' lives.
Now it's my turn to go be an extra.
- The British Society for Literature and Science was an exercise in overlap. Every time I saw someone else I knew, I had to think: did I know them because of academic history of science circles or science fiction circles? I'm not used to seeing them all together in one place, engaged in one academic enterprise.
- At
aca's birthday party, I ran into someone who recognized me from Eastercon in 1998. - There were Pie People at
madcatlady's wedding party. - Loreena McKennitt has a new album out, and is therefore on tour. I learned of this by way of
irisbleu, who then already had a ticket to the concert and was going. So last night, leaving the concert, I ran into
coalescent, partner, and friend. He was surprised at the coincidence; I observed I knew someone else there. It turned out the friend knew
irisbleu.
Now it's my turn to go be an extra.

Speaking of connections & extras, I noted the other day that someone on your friends list has both you and my sister as LJFriends.

We are most only one or two degrees from each other, it sometimes seems: LJ just makes it easier to figure out who those connectors are than does most casual conversation.

It's kind of neat, but I've also had it backfire on me once.

Ah yes. It's hard to tell amusing second-hand anecdotes about friends when it turns out your audience was there at the time, for example.

Nights from Alhambra
And..I agree about the 1000 - though it feels like my family makes up 50% of them!
Re: Nights from Alhambra
I had no idea your family played most of the extras in my life!
P.S. If you don't already know about their accounts, you may be very interested in

PS- after a co-worker today muttered something about everybody being out to get her, another co-worker intoned, "it's six-and-a-half billion to one..."

Well, that explains why I'm so exhausted all the time, doesn't it. I hope I'm having fun in all my other lives.
