I believe it was purplecthulhu who, last week, said that there are only 1000 people in the world. We all spend our spare time runnning around, playing the part of extras in other peoples' lives.

• The British Society for Literature and Science was an exercise in overlap. Every time I saw someone else I knew, I had to think: did I know them because of academic history of science circles or science fiction circles? I'm not used to seeing them all together in one place, engaged in one academic enterprise.


• At aca's birthday party, I ran into someone who recognized me from Eastercon in 1998.


• There were Pie People at madcatlady's wedding party.


• Loreena McKennitt has a new album out, and is therefore on tour. I learned of this by way of irisbleu, who then already had a ticket to the concert and was going. So last night, leaving the concert, I ran into coalescent, partner, and friend. He was surprised at the coincidence; I observed I knew someone else there. It turned out the friend knew irisbleu.
