Thank you! I already had indefinite leave to remain, but it feels so much more permanent having a visa that says things like "residency" and "settlement" on it, and doesn't include C.'s name on it at all.

That's great. :) Can you clarify for me the difference between the ILR you already had and the new visa?

I'm a little fuzzy on what the differences are. It's as if my status has stayed the same, but I have a different visa now.

Old visa: Titled "Entry Clearance"
New visa: Titled "Residence Permit"

Old visa: Specified that the visa was for "Settlement to join/accompany partner" and named C. by name
New visa: No limitations listed.

Old visa: Expired when my passport expired.
New visa: Says it's valid indefinitely.

Either way, however, I still had indefinite leave to remain from the point I got the first visa. I only had to get a new visa because my passport was going to expire.
