I'm not in London yet, but Colin is. I have no reason to think he would have been in any place at any time directly affected by this morning's attacks, but neither have I been able to reach him yet to know for certain, and the mobile network is rather understandably jammed up.

I don't know what to do about my flight, currently scheduled for this evening. Flights are still operating normally to Heathrow, and the Heathrow Express is back in operation, but most other forms of ground transit may be seriously affected by this for days to come. I could make it to Heathrow - but could I go anywhere from there anytime soon?

Update: Colin's parents received a text message from him this morning saying he'd safely arrived at work. Even if work closed down, it's not more than an hour-and-a-half walk home for him at most.

And even better: a text from Colin himself. He's safe and at work.

It really depends more on if you're comfortable with flying now that an al-Queda group is claiming the bomdings.

You'll be able to get a taxi from the airport at the very least. While what has happened is horrible, and I'm not trying to diminish it at all, London and its people have always been extremely resilient. Bombs don't scare Londoners - they've been dealing with Northern Ireland too long. The city will be back on its feet in no time.

*hugs* I hope you are able to get in touch with Colin soon. We've been trying to call our friends over there since we head and haven't been able to get through as yet.

*hugs* Not sure what advice to give--if C has a car or someone who can lend one to him so that he can pick you up, you should be okay. It looks as if it's really only central London that's closed down, so assuming your flat isn't in that area, car travel may be slow, but you should be fine.

I'm sorry this is affecting your travel plans but very glad that you weren't actually arriving today!!! *hugs*

Oh, good to hear. I wish every single person there was ok, though.

If I were you, I'd probably go ahead and get over there if your flight is still on, but there are definitely provisions for no-penalty cancelling under the circumstances. It will be difficult getting around but you'll be able to do it if you have patience (and we know you do :/). Good luck.

thank goodness! I really hope that your flight will be ok, the airports will probably be crazy, but at least security will be extra tight.

I've been thinking about Colin all morning, and hoping he was nowhere near what happened. I'm so glad to know that he's fine.

Assuming you do leave tonight, have safe travels! And enjoy seeing your sweetie!

*hugs*

Give me a call if you need a lift from the airport. My mobile number is here - I assume networks will be back to normal soon. Safe flight!

What a lovely offer! I suspect transit will be feasible tomorrow, if potentially indirect. But it certainly is good to have a backup plan.

Again, darling, do what you have to do to stay safe.

Failing all else, give us a bell -- I'm a bit out of the way, but I'm quite happy to come and pick you up and you are more than welcome to crash in Bath for a few days!

Glad to hear C is OK -- I did email him but hadn't heard anything back yet...

I figured you were still Stateside, but I'm glad to hear Colin is ok. LJ is wonderful for that - I noticed the rollcalls going on when I came into work today.

And yeah - bombing Londoners just makes them determined.

Immediately thought of Colin when I got up to the news this
afternoon. Thank God for mobile text messaging: it's about the only way that huge masses of people can get out their "I'm alive!" messages in situations like this.

Transportation out of the airport may or may not be dodgy: I suspect that a lot of people just recently decided to cancel their trip to London today. Also, London is one of the world's most experienced cities in the world when it comes to bombings: WWI, WWII, the "troubles" and so on. The reboot should happen quite quickly.

I'll make sure that everyone at 1st Thursday is updated.

/Don

I am glad to hear that Colin is safe. Maybe Colin's family might give you a lift? Or there might be a way to take a taxi? The extra cost of a taxi might be worth the cost.

thank gods all my lj friends are safe so far.

Colin's family rather inconveniently live on the other side of the country from London - if only I were flying into Manchester, they would be of great assistance. It's a good suggestion though. I have a few closer-to-London friends who have volunteered rides, should it come to it. My current thought is Heathrow Express to Paddington and then, if necessary, take a cab from there. Sometimes, it's worth the extravagance.

Yes, I think that this might be one of those "sometimes".

Thanks so much for posting, hon.

I am not the praying type, but I actually thanked God today that you weren't in England yet, and spent, well, up until now fretting for Colin. Thank goodness he's okay!!!!!

I'm so glad for that news. The first thing I thought when I heard the news this morning wasn't just "oh no, Colin's in London , hope we hear everything is fine soon. The first thing that really crossed my mind was, Colin's in London and Shana isn't yet. Love does weird things to my brain but somehow, a disaster frigthens me less than the thought of a disaster happening when [livejournal.com profile] chickenfeet and I aren't together.
Get on the plane. I figure it couldn't be safer since London has had its disaster for the week.
