oh, can you?? Iain wears contacts and has always been afraid to swim with them... can you actually open your eyes in the water then?

The person who told me this today says that being underwater with contacts is no problem at all. All that water should only make the contacts still more securely to eyes. In fact, it can even be hard to get them out for a while until one has dried off a bit.

That said, she did warn against diving, something like might help lose or dislodge them. She said that chlorine wouldn't be any more of a problem for contacts than one's eyes in general.

All this is second hand, but I was talking to a doctor at the time, and she said this with great authority, so hopefully she knew what she was talking about.
