Last night, I confirmed my suspicion that I had seen part of the show that cliosfolly raved about a few months ago. Utarpa showed the first episode during the unannounced pre-show period, perhaps a year ago. Last night, however, they showed the entirety of Read or Die, all three episodes.

( Minor spoilers which really shouldn't ruin anyone's enjoyment of the show... )

Items I did not own 30 hours ago include
* Utarpa 100th showing celebration freebies advertising Fushigi Yuugi and Utena
* several new shirts
* my first pair of jeans in over five years (for those of you who don't know me well, it's not that I haven't been buying new clothing, so much as I've worn almost exclusively skirts in that time period)
* and best of all... a new printer! It prints more than one page every three minutes! It can print black and white and color all at once! I can print out drafts of my dissertation in less than a day! In less than half an hour, even! As C. put it, we've finally made it into the '90s with printing speed.

We would be proud holders of CNE tickets, but due to a bit of a fiasco involving lunch and waiting far too long for it, it seemed better to put the Ex off until tomorrow.

When I asked C. for help on how to edit this sentence so it would be more comprehensible, he told me to go write it down as proof that I'm an academic. So here you are:

"Edward Rosen, in his 1956 article, established the modern historical understanding of the development of the history of the invention of eyeglasses. "

The funny thing is, the sentence does correctly describe the situation. Alas, it's too compact to be lucid, and an example of how important editing is in order to improve text, especially when that text is from one of my early drafts.
