I often find hair cuts to be philosophical experiences. They are markers of time passing, of intervals elapsed since the last hair cut. They are culminating moments, when minor factors conspired to remind me that I need a hair cut. They are a chance to sit still for 10-30 minutes and let my mind wander and reflect.
Today's hair trim was only philosphical in a much more prosaic way. I called up the place I had been going to, double-checked their prices, and found that they'd risen dramatically. Personally, I don't feel that a wash-and-trim is worth £50. So I called an even closer place and found they were so much less expensive that it was easy to commit to a same day appointment. When it came time to pay, the numbers were even better: a 25% discount for being a first time customer.
"It pays to shop around" is not particularly profound, but it's worth a reminder now and again.

I'm far too lazy, and I don't see the point of spending money to cut my hair when its "style" (ahem) is long and straight. I spent years being quite short of money; also, I used to home-bleach my hair, and would just snap the ends off when they got overly crackled (this was rare, as my hair actually took to bleach really well, and was mostly quite shiny and, oddly, more manageable).
I could probably afford haircuts now, it's just not one of my habits.

For proper context, any time I stripped permanent black dye out of my hair (happened on roughly a 3-yearly cycle up to that point), I'd get a hairdresser to do it carefully to make sure it didn't all fall out, ad I'd usually get a trim as well, cos the ends would be well fucked (bleach + permanent dye + more bleach!). So that was more damage control than a 'trim' really.
