High tide. It's no longer aqua alta season, so no boots needed, but the high tide can lap over the edges of the embankments even in summer. The water is wilder in the broad Giudecca canal than it is most other places in the city, in smaller, tamer rios.

The Giudecca side of the Giudecca Canal, from the Zattere at night. C. may have taken this one.

The Punta della Dogana was blocked off - possibly construction, possibly keeping the crowds from using the relatively small space for its beautiful views of regatte and other seasonal happenings.
