Greek Ship passing the Piazetta

I love moments like this: a giant cruise ship or ferry passing more normal-sized buildings, making all of them look like they're the wrong size. This Greek cruise ship was sailing through the Bacino, out to sea, past the Piazzetta by the Doge's Palace and the Basilica San Marco yesterday afternoon.

I'd forgotten what summer is like: warm, sticky, clear, bright, humid. I'm glad I brought my sunhat, but I may need new sandals.

That is indeed an excellent picture! It's the incongruity of seeing the ship amongst the buildings, too - like seeing huge tankers go along the Suez canal, where they're completely surrounded by land. I bet it left a helluva wake, too.

Glad you are enjoying such nice weather - it is fair to mediocre here...

And that's not even one of the BIG ships.

Is it likely to be similar weather in a month's time when I'm there? Only hotter? I'm trying to decide what to pack, and it's hard when I'm going to be in England, too, and I'm not used to hot climates...

Yes, plan on days in the 30s, cooler nights (i.e. you'll want layers, which you would for England anyways). It doesn't usually rain a whole lot then, but it can be fairly humid here in summer.

Note that if you're wearing shorts, you won't be able to get into most churches, which are good ways of cooling off when out and about. Most churches require largely covered legs and arms - a scarf/shawl will deal with bare arms for their purposes, but shorts are harder to work with. Still, depending on your style, you might want to have them with for churchless days.
