Also, I had incentive to mention the Hedgehog of the Destruction of Ninevah, which is always a good thing.
!?! Why have I not encountered this before? (Probably because my hedgehog obsession began around the time that my medieval studies inclinations withered.) What a lovely depiction. In googling for it, I also learned about St. Arnulf "Hairshirts are for wusses" Villiers, who was reputed to have made himself a hedgehog-skin shirt, worn prickles-in for more mortification.
