All the appliances except for the washer-dryer have arrived.

Five meters of ducting showed up this morning, a day early. I still need to order an external grille plate, but as long as it arrives in the next week, we're good.

The cabinets and fitters come on Friday.

We have a sudden handle decision to resolve. We'd picked one we liked at the cabinet shop, and then they told us they weren't produced anymore so we'd have to pick something else, but they'd check on it, just in case. We went to B&Q, picked out an entirely different handle, and mail-ordered it last night. (We spent time trying it out in the shop first) Today, the designer mentions in passing that the handles will be delivered directly to us; the ones that were no longer produced. So now we need to decide in time to cancel one of the orders.

In other news, my kitchen is emptier than yours is.

Pshaw, an electric frying pan and they are ALL SET!

Oh, and an electric kettle. You may NOT live in England without owning an electric kettle, S, or they will REVOKE YOUR SETTLEMENT VISA! Trufax!

Yes, I didn't post a photo of the living room. It's sort of the antithesis of the kitchen right now. We have a kettle, microwave, fridge/freezer, a whole bunch of boxes of kitchen stuff, including all the boxed up appliances,and outside we have a fire pit/grill. At least the living room floor no longer includes the banister for the stairs.

Proof of having a kettle: the contractors finished their prep on time. They would have walked off the job if we hadn't had tea-making facilities, I'm sure.

I didn't know there was such a thing as an electric flying pan.

I didn't know it was possible to live without an electric kettle.

An electric flying pan would be totally cool, at least until it got hot. Electric frying pans, on the other hand, are handy if without a stove (as my parents currently are until THEIR new kitchen is finished).

Electric kettles aren't that well-known in the US...I guess the prevalence of coffee makers accounts for that.

Is the shade called "aqua", by any chance? (That's what it said on the tin, although it looks more green than blue to me.)

No, although it should have been. Or maybe "turquoise". It's Peppermint Beach 4.

That looks like it has a lot of potential for rustic charm! However slate floors like in our kitchen are damn cold this time of year!

We're going for a somewhat low-key modern look. The extra handles are more rustic (so if the other handles don't turn up, we'll have more of that look after all!) The floors really are cold - it's a chilly room. In the long run, we're likely to replace the windows with double glazing to compensate a little.
