Outside, the wind is thrashing the trees and the vines, and the sky is grey, as it has been all day so far.

Yesterday afternoon, the skies were blue and tranquil and lovely. I was upstairs when a flash of light caught my eye from outside. Lightning? No, how could it be? The skies were still looking blue and tranquil and lovely. But the rumble of thunder soon afterwards gave the storm away, a front of golden yellow rolling in speedily across the blue.

Rain fell furiously for ten minutes - and then it was all over.

we had the faintest of rainbows yesterday afternoon, I'm guessing it was the same storm :-)

Now, doesn't that make you homesick for Iowa? :)

Yes! This country just doesn't know how to do a real thunder storm. Or lightning storm. Or a serious rainstorm even.

An Australian acquaintance of mine has been complaining for some time that this country doesn't have 'proper rain' (although presumably it does have rather a lot of heavy drizzle). Yesterday, when in my office it was hard to talk over the noise of the rain on the roof, and the car park looked an inch deep in about five minutes, he looked out of the window and said "Look, it's actually raining! I knew you could do it if you really tried!".

Aww. How sweet! It's true though. There was a lightning storm last week which was really good too, although too far away from me to achieve the full splendor of immediacy.

Wow - what a wonderful sequence.

I like to think we do a wonderfully subtle and extended range of rain-type activities including drizzle, mizzle, mist, dampness, the odd spot. Not all rain has to be about cats and dogs.
