Andrew Lloyd Webber is writing a sequel to the Phantom of the Opera. I've never read any of Leroux's novels, but based on the plot, it's hard to see where, story-wise, a sequel would immediately go or what benefit it would have.

In other musicals-of-doom news, I'm going to see the thoroughly gloomy new musical Marguerite in a few weeks. From the title, you would have reason to think it was based on Faust rather than Dumas' La dame aux camélias. This musical is to La Traviata as Rent is to La Bohème, at least in terms of source material.
