The angel looks real. Is it an angel or someone else with something on their back?

It's a sculpture of an angel, one of a pair flanking the high altar of the cathedral. The photo is looking back from behind the high altar, down the length of the church.

Thank you! I am too. (Although today C. started to agree I may need a new camera. I've been a little bothered by its weight - he's now surprised it doesn't have a sports mode and doesn't take pictures higher than 1600x1200.
