A camera, once, I placed away
in some place safe and near,
some smart location, obvious,
to me that day, right here.

An act of paranoia, yes,
I knew for what it was.
But since that 'tempted break-in,
I felt I had just cause.

Within a week, I needed it.
I casually looked 'round,
to find that place so obvious.
No camera could be found!

I spent an hour searching high,
an hour searching low.
Where had I hid my camera?
I swear I do not know!

Before Wakehurst, before Cotswolds,
each time I searched it out.
But can I find my camera?
I now begin to doubt.

Three weeks have passed since I it hid,
three weeks of much-missed snaps.
Sketching is fine, but can't replace
the outcome of this lapse.

Maybe your camera eloped with my iPod.

And they both ran away to France... taking my French textbooks with them!

Damned liberal media.

*ducks the inevitable pelting with rotten fruit, rocks, etc.*

I'm not usually given to puns. Really.

erm... i would pelt you with rotten fruit, but unfortunately my brain has died from an overdose of anglo-saxon, rendering me unable to comprehend bad puns.

I could take your word for it, and pelt you anyway?

Yeah - they pretty much say "blog," just like we do :) It's become a rather universal term, like most netspeak.

hmmm... i had some kind of test/writing task/project/thing ages back for french class which involved talking about online journals, and if i recall correctly, the phrase used was long and complicated and i got very sick of repeating it.
Probably one of those situations like "le weekend" vs the official "le fin de la semaine"

Yeah, I think it's one of those situations. Besides, you need the one-syllable word for the artistic allusion to work!

oh, of course ;) the French Lanuage Police are most inconsiderate of these things...

there was always the possibility that my translation-befuffled brain was going to miss sarcasm as easily as it missed Iris' bad pun...

however, i shall assume that was an unessescary worry ;)

I was going to say "cute" but then for a moment I thought it would sound condescending, which was not what I meant at all.

It was made for t.v., aired last Christmas, and has been available on DVD in the UK for a few months now. It's not perfect, but there's a lot of very good, and Susan is perfect!

Soon I shall have a major dilemma. Do I buy film and new batteries for my non-digital camera? Do I buy a new, extra-compact and lightweight camera, since I've been idly grumbling for years about how heavy my old digital one is, even though it otherwise does everything I need it to? Do I tear the flat apart so it's a complete disaster in order to find the very missing camera?

Heehee...sorry, I know I should be sending sympathetic waves in your general direction, but you made me laugh.

I don't want to take all the credit for your misplacing your camera that way, but it's definitely a symptom of an inherited trait.
