[Poll #1014297]

This poll is brought to you by a conference paper I attended this weekend. I had a lovely time up in Manchester (at one of my very favorite conferences) and Preston, and have seen [livejournal.com profile] snowdrifted and [livejournal.com profile] pittenweem (House Guest of the Week) today at opposite ends of the country from each other.

I believe it's also called technology transfer?

It's an example of tech transfer, but that term also refers to a much broader range of practice - any example of the geographic or cultural translation of knowledge about a technology from one place to another. (In other words, it's a term that can be used to describe the diffusion of stone axes just as much as spin-o**s.

If the spin-off venture is a failure, it has spun out. I've heard "spin-off" used many times in business contexts, but "spin-out" is more for cars in high-speed accidents.
