In the past two days, I learned...

...that Space Invaders are taking over the planet, city by city. They've made more progress in Paris than anywhere else. There is so much street art here that they blend in, subtly, stealthily. (They're in London too!)

...to beware of stealth ginseng tea in otherwise innocuous fruit juices.

...that popcorn does not go all that well with foie gras.

...that I know of a surprisingly large number of animals which begin with the letter O.

...that Berthillon is closed on Monday and Tuesday.

...that basil goes sumptuously well with dark chocolate. (Special of the month at Cocoa et Chocolat!)

...that the Tour Eiffel is very sparkly from the hour until eight minutes after exactly.

We noticed the sparkliness too, when we went. Unexpected, but jolly pretty - and I made it eight minutes too.

It's like a giant tasteful disco ball.

To compensate for Berthillon themselves being closed, quite a few other places on the Ile St Louis sell Berthillon glaces, like the Cafe Ile St Louis, right on the end by Notre Dame.

I missed the Space Invaders - I wish I'd known to watch out for them! Somehow, subliminally, I think I knew they were there...

Happily, today is Wednesday, and on Wednesdays Berthillon IS open! The rhubarb was amazing.

Did you see that there was a huge terrorist scare in I think Boston over space invaders? And foie gras ... so yummy, and yet so damned cruel and immoral. Like all but organic veal.

No that was an ad campaign for "Aqua Teen Hunger force" - apparently the Boston authorities finally noticed some lite-brite boxes picturing the characters (a few weeks after they'd been put up) and concluded that these obvious and cartoony devices must be bombs. Even after they figured out they weren't they insisted they were hoax bombs and an attempt to disrupt the peace, and tried to charge the people who'd put them up. for the record, none of the other major cities where they'd gone up had any panics.
I thik somebody described as Boston announcing to terrorists around the world - "hey - you don't even need a clever plan - just put up a few lights and we'll panic as if you've unleashed a 24 mid-season plot twist on us."

Oh, right. I just remembered them looking something like space invaders.

I ♥ Space Invaders. Hurrah!

Stealth ginseng tea? In fruit juice? That's just wrong.

I am now naming animals which begin with the letter O in my head. I blame you. (Ocelot, ox, octopus, ... I had another one, but I forgot it ... man, I'm going to be doing this for a while.)

The stealth gingseng was Very Wrong Indeed. Something which affects flavor that much should be noted on the bottle. It's like all those lemon teas which have stealth rosehips in them. SUCH a waste of good lemon tea.

(Oryx, opposum, osprey....)

There used to be a guide you could get to the invaders around Manchester. A friend of mine took photos of each one (this one being 22 of 50 or so). Apparently they weren't by Invader, however, but someone else who did it before him, and he wasn't too happy about the situation.

There's a whole series of maps and books for tracking them down!

It seems odd to me that France would give in so easily to invaders.

Why? Any alien which disguises itself as public art work in a thematically unified way has a decent chance in a place as rife with art installations and public monuments as this one.

Ostriches. Otters. Old Elephants.

Sorry, House in-joke.
