Yesterday, I visited a house with a library room which was two stories tall, with sturdy ladders, lovely artwork, and enormous windows looking out over the house's courtyard. It was spacious, well-equipped, and full of sturdy built-in bookshelves rising high up the walls. It was a personal library to aspire to.

Toronto - hotbed of Facebook usage. Four people there asked me if I had an account, when none have asked me that before or since.

I tried a free scoop of Haagen-Dazs's Sticky Toffee Pudding ice cream in Bethesda, thanks to New Flavor Day on Tuesday. It was decent, but could have been better. It did make me understand something about STP however: I love the contrast between cream or vanilla ice cream and the sweetness of the pudding. The ice cream unites the sweet toffee with the creamy dairy, leaving a cloying aftertaste and no contrast.

My sister tells me that people in D.C. rarely have anyone but their closest friends over to their homes; yet somehow I have been in D.C. for four days and been to four people's homes - only two of whom I know.

P.S. For those of you in Toronto who like costumes - the Poculi Ludique Societas is selling off costumes.

We are moving to a new home and we must sell some of the costumes, props, and set pieces accumulated over more than 40 years of producing medieval and renaissance drama at U of T. The sale will take place: Saturday 26 May, 11am-3pm, at the Centre for Medieval Studies (39 Queen's Park Crescent East).
