On dissertations

"I very much enjoyed reading your thesis", wrote a colleague today. It was a good reminder of the dangers of being too close to my work and mostly only seeing all the residual problems with it; there's good in there too.

Another colleague has found an enterprising way of encouraging a dissertator to finish - sponsorship!
