Dear Internet Hive Mind,

Have any of you used lastminute.com before? How did it go? Was it reliable? Any problems?

Answers appreciated ASAP. While I'm still curious, I'm no longer in any kind of rush. My reason for asking has resolved itself.

It worked pretty well. I couldn't find a cheaper plane ticket elsewhere, and I did shop around quite a lot. I don't remember any particular problems during booking (except that I would have appreciated a way to compare fares for different dates). I lost my luggage, but that was Continental's fault.

Thank you. Online reviews tell me it's widely used, but with largely poor customer service in case changes are necessary.

I've used lastminute.com to book a trip to Hungary, a trip to Tunisia, and several theatre tickets. It's been lovely every time, although with trips there is a lot of followup with the actual tour companies that book airfare / hotels, so communication is with them rather than lastminute.com.

Yes, several times to book hotels, restaurants and tickets. Generally no problems and they have been helpful.

The one time I did have a problem was the airline (which I booked through lastminute) messing up and not issuing the tickets to the right place. However they pulled their fingers out and sent a courier to the airport with the tickets from Head Office once discovered, so it was sorted.

Back when I worked for a large previously government owned telecommunications company we used it all the time to get cheap-ish hotel rooms for salespeople that hadn't planned ahead.

I tried to use it to book my tickets for Krakow and got all the way through to the point of nearly being able to pay... when the website suddenly told me "There is insufficient time for us to get your tickets to you and the carrier does not proveide e-tickets. Please choose another air-line"

So, I went to Swiss Air's webpage, booked myself on exactly the same flight for £10 less, got a confirmation number and that was that.

So, irritations:
1) Letting me get all the way through the booking process before telling me "Sorry, you can't actually book these tickets"
2) Charging more than the actual air-lines website.
3) Sneakily introducing a per-trip travel insurance cost that you have to deselect.
