A surfeit of directions

Thanks to the Post Office website, I know now where the post offices nearest to Imperial College are. The website even has a feature which tells you how to get to your post office of choice. Behind the cut is a fine specimen of directions. My favorite part is where it tells me to go right for 0 meters. If you could mapquest dance steps, they would look like this.



In more exciting map-related news, there's an online interactive version of the fourteenth-century Gough map of Great Britain available. (Found indirectly via medievalist) All the rivers may have their origins in circles and Anglesey is looking like a mighty round island, but in pretty much all other respects it's a much more accessible map than the last one I discussed,

Ugh... I'm slow this morning. When I saw 'm' as the unit of distance, I instantly assumed it meant meters (or metres, not sure which is the UK spelling). I was imagining little tiny mincing steps to go three feet.

No, you're not slow at all. m does stand for metres. Note that the entire trip is due to take 3 minutes, which would be rather optimistic for .91 miles, but quite feasible for a ludicrously complicated .91 meters. Something's wrong with the routefinding infrastructure, but I don't thing the units of measurement are it.

There used to be a Post Office on the end of the Museum tunnel on Exhibition Road. I suspect like the nearest cash machine in the Science Museum, that's gone now.

However to walk from The Royal Albert Hall to near South Ken station (which those directions are for)would appear to be the best part of a mile, so I suspect that m is miles, not metres and the time is out. There are roads on there I can't actually find on an A-Z, so god help you.

There's also a PO on the corner of Gloucester Road and Cromwell Road, which if you're walking from the Queensgate side of Imperial is actually closer than the one at South Ken

That would at least explain why so many roads were involved. I didn't see how .91 miles would be necessary to cover that distance, but then again, the route's not exactly obvious.

Also, before I looked at the detailed directions, the summary listing said the post office was .6 miles away from my starting point. To be fair, it also said the Gloucester Road location was .5 miles away, but I was coming from South Ken. anyways. Thus, having the total distance be half again the promised initial total made me doubt the units.
