Book Cover Puzzle Book Cover Puzzle

For the last week or so, I've been working on this jigsaw puzzle. This photo of it is from several days ago. The image is from a book cover, a book I also own in this edition. Do you know what the book is? Or even the artist or author?

Brits will have a natural advantage in this, since the book was published with a different cover in the U.S.

It looks to be a Josh Kirby painted Terry Pratchett cover.

I had to look it up in the back of one of my books so I'll keep schtumm on which one it is - I don't own this one and have only read it the once years ago...

It does, doesn't it. I can see a young witch on a broom in the completed corner, so that narrows it down a bit

That would be "with" rather than "on", which is a bit of a clue...

Yes indeed. If you look at the larger version of the photo, you might even have been able to make out the signature in the lower-right hand corner - the easiest part of the whole puzzle to put together!

without looking at the comments, i'm gonna guess harry potter

That's my guess, too - Goblet of Fire? The thing on the right looks vaguely like it might be a dragon, except at the top maybe it looks like Voldemort, or something.

unrelated question: what anime is your icon from?

It's from Tenchi Muyo - the character is Washu, a mad (yet very cute) scientist.

Right genre, so a fine guess. The big pile of red on the right is a wizard with a dragonish creature at his feet, so you were right enough on both counts, even if it is a different book.

You have the right genre - and indeed, many of the same basic types of characters too. Quite a reasonable guess.

My guess is either Equal Rites or Wyrd Sisters.

I thought Pratchett too, and having checked my bookshelves think I know which one. Didn't even know there were Pratchett jigsaws, in fact, and am delighted to find out!

I received this one as a present a year ago Christmas and finally have the time - and a large smooth floor - on which to put it together. I wouldn't mind doing more of them, if they're out there.

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] a_d_medievalist. I think its Equal Rites

Yup, I recognised Esk. :o)

I was going to say Equal Rites too.

Terry Pratchett - Equal Rites?

Absolutely.

Oh -- the weird US outlier again, I guess. My first Pratchett books belonged to X, and were all bought in the UK or Germany, so I've got an unfair advantage over my compatriots.

The only reason I have so many more UK than US Pratchett editions is that they always came out first over here, and I was over here just often enough to make that worthwhile.

I am currently re-reading my Pratchett books and knew it was Equal Rites as this is my current book. I am very sad and need a life - oh and maybe a job not involving children

Perfect timing! It's not sad at all to have currently-relevant knowledge.

You'll have seen the right answer from the other comments, I suspect, and know you were very, very close. But you can also answer something I've been wondering about since last night - did Canada have the Kirby covers on its Pratchetts, or not? Canada is half in the British market for editions and covers and half in the US, and I don't know which it's been for Pratchett.

Not having looked at the other comments yet... Equal Rites, Terry Pratchett, Josh Kirby.

The give-away bits were Esk with her broom and Granny Weatherwax's hand...

(Of course, having shown off, I'll have managed to get it compleetely wrong...
