Toronto is considering the concept of spring. Snow continued every few days for most of my absence, and only began to seriously melt in the past few days. I returned in time to see only vestigial curves of ice and scatters of snow loitering against north-facing walls. The trees are bare, the sidewalks grey, the grass muted olive. I have not looked in many places, but there are no hints of spring flowers yet.

In England, spring arrives in February, early March at the latest. The daffodils were in full glory, the temperatures in the mid-teens (Celsius). The glow of crocuses and other small flowers littered the verdant lawns. Budding trees were not long off. I left London to a crowd of spring rainstorms after a week of mellow sunshine.

It should be close to 70, here, today! :)

yesterday was the first nice day in a long while, so I think we've earned it.

I rather dislike it jumping up so quickly in temp. my sinuses suffer.

There are definitely a few spring flowers by my aunt's apartment, which is up a short distance on Avenue. Some snowdrops were clearly visible in the border along the walkway when I was there on Sunday for Easter dinner :)

I'm delighted to hear there are flowers hiding somewhere in this city. By the end of March, there should be.

Its been Spring over here for ages. This may sound like a good thing but actually it screws up part of the ecomony because the ski-ing season was basically cancelled (no hockey and no ski-ing gasp..). We're also in for a serious water shortage in the summer.

I would think that Vancouver normally gets spring sooner than Toronto - just how long has it been spring there? A pity about the lack of precipitation over winter and its summer consequences though.

We had snow around January 10th, then about 2 weeks of unbroken sunshine at the beginning of February. The daffodils and cherry blossom came out in mid-February. Then it rained a bit more, and now it's alternating 2/3 days sun with 2/3 days rain.

It was quite odd to experience about 14 degrees C over here and yet to read about all the snow in Toronto. Big country this...

Hey! Did I read your post incorrectly, or were you implying that you're home?? If so, welcome back! Are you coming to the potluck tomorrow? Hope I see you there!

I'm home! I arrived back in Toronto yesterday afternoon.

Thank you for the potluck reminder. Like every other event announcement I received in the past week, it failed to make it to my calendar. I needed to go into campus tomorrow anyways, so I might as well stay for dinner!

Arriving in Toronto on Sunday, so we're looking forward to being able to walk around town without the use of an ice-axe.
Daughter will no doubt appreciate not being buried beneath sixteen layers of clothing too...

It's getting more and more springlike by the day! By Sunday, the last of the ice might even have melted at this rate.
