I drowsed through the day, an hour or two at a time, waking to wander or drink another cup of tea, water, or orange juice. I'm congested, with a sore throat, nasty cough, and fever, but it's no wonder I'm awake: look at the sugar content of most of what I'm consuming to make my symptoms tolerable!

Cough drops are menthol-medicated sugary sweets, and they help me enormously. I'm alternating them with Ricola non-medicinal drops, again, largely sugar. Orange juice? Sugar. Even my drink of preference to soothe my throat and keep away the cough is really nothing but sweetness, consisting as it does of honey and hot water.

I wonder what a diabetic would do in the same situation? Clearly, there are alternate mild remedies.
