Odds and Ends

Three and a half pages written today!

The Society for the History of Technology October newsletter is on the web in both html and pdf format. It includes an article on the wonderful summer writing workshop I went to on Cape Cod, including a group photo. (Although looking at the photo, my vanity tells me that it's a somewhat unflattering outfit I have on in it.) There's also a brief article on the Amsterdam meeting of SHOT.

Why does there need to be a Dungeons and Dragons 2 movie? Let alone, D&D 3??

D&D Movie...

I have no idea why they'd make another one. I heard the first one was so terrible that even hard-core fans boycotted it. I'm thinking that it's going to be straight-to-video...

I went to see it at my university film society a couple of years ago. I've got `lifetime associate' membership so I got to see it for free. I was robbed. Even Tom Baker (who can usually be relied upon to liven up an otherwise dull movie with over-the-top eccentric exuberence) gave a bit of a bored, lacklustre performance.

The first D&D movie was truly an abomination. But Bill and I were talking around this point the other day. Our question was, "How on Earth did they get the movie producers and all that to AGREE to a sequel of a movie that bombed so badly?" The answer we decided on was Lord of the Rings. You see, before Lord of the Rings, the world was not READY for such an awesome fantasy movie. But now that Lord of the Rings has become to popular, it has 'paved the way' for more, so to speak.

It was a pretty funny conversation.

Plus, blaming things on LotR is fun. Try it! You might like it!
