Jasper Fforde, author of the Thursday Next books (most recently, Something Rotten), will be in town next week as part of the International Festival of Authors at the Harbourfront Centre!! I've just booked myself a ticket online for the Monday 8pm reading. The Wednesday 7pm Interview looks likely to be sold out - certainly no tickets are available for it for whatever reason.

Thank you very much to the anonymous commenter who points these events out to me.

There's so much that happens in Toronto, and it's very easy to not notice major events. Speaking of visiting authors, however, I also notice that Tamora Pierce will be doing a reading at 7pm on Friday, November 5th. Anyone interested?

Wonderful! I recommend taking your Bristol-signed copy of Something Rotten along and getting him to sign it from the other side of the world!

Seriously, have a great time. I expect a full report, however! :-D

ooh, the Festival of Authors--that takes me back! I had my first date at a PEN benefit reading during the Festival of Authors, oh, 15 or 16 years ago...

I wouldn't mind going to hear Fford read: I heard him read the "Hamlet at Starbuck's" scene on NPR and was enchanted. But the site merely tells me to have my Mastercard in hand before clicking on the "Purchase Tickets" link... will I be sucked dry of all things monetary if I click?

They're $15. That's all they are if you trek down to Harbourfront Centre and buy them in perosn.

If you buy them from the website, they add on all sorts of extra processing charges, so it totals approximately $24. I understand if you don't want to come - also there are two other people doing readings in the same set.

I envy you so much. The Thursday Next novels are so great; it must be wonderful to hear passages read by the author.

You're welcome! I'm relieved to see you're happy I posted... I was concerned you'd be cheesed off at me for messing up your forum with a completely unrelated topic.

:-)

When I ordered my tickets I was quite surprised to find the interview was much more booked than the reading. It puzzles me too. Luckily I have tickets to both. To paraphrase from Chico Marx (i.e. Groucho's brother) "I'd give you my seat, except I'm using it"

:-P

I just received my credit card bill on Friday and was shocked to find out what the Harbourfront charged me in "processing fees". I was quite certain they were going to charge an additional $9 (which sounds rather high to begin with) but in fact they ended up adding a $13 charge on top of the ticket price (two $15 tickets cost me $43)! Oh well, I'm not going to let it spoil my fun, next (Next?) time I'm just purchase them in person.
