The first hot swelter of humidity pervades the city. We braved it for a trip to Mildred Pierce before retreating into air conditioned bliss. My first few summers in this city were miserable: if you don't have a basement apartment and good circulation, it's worth trying to get a place with air conditioning. It makes the summer months - primarily the humidity - bearable.

I've cleaned most of the apartment. I gave up when it was largely presentable and I inexplicably cut my foot on something on the floor - I couldn't find it, but it's slowing down my household-tidying inclinations. It's easier to relax and hit the refresh button to read the BBC's latest eloquence on the subject of the Portugal-Greece game, the same game which is keeping the entire neighborhood peaceably quiet at the moment.

Happy fourth of July!

Happy 4th to you, too! It's finally quieted down around here - at least for the moment. We had two nearly naked men (who really should NOT be without clothing) washing their car with the stereo pumped to max volume for a couple hours... then a wedding next door... it's been quite an afternoon.

I hope things cool off for you!

That was me sending powerful healing energy toward your injured foot.

My foot is much, much better. The problem with the original injury is that it felt as if something was in the wound, but I absolutely couldn't see anything wrong with it. It just kept hurting whenever I pressed down on my foot. An hour later, bleeding long stopped, it was clear that there was a little chunk of glass embedded in my foot, easy enough to remove. We've never broken any glass in that room, so it's a bit of a mystery how it managed to end up there. Anyways, all vacuumed and healed now.

The thunderstorm was quite effective in cooling down the city - by 7, by barbecue time, outdoors was cooler and more pleasant than in, so we brought out the towels and went outside to cook and eat. A lovely evening.

I love your "mighty cartwheel of doom!" icon!

I'm hoping to make more avatars when I have time. I just think Mercury is so darn cute in the live action series! I had to start with her.

She really is cute.

I need to be patient and leave my computer on for several more days to download more episodes.
