I don't know whether to look forward to or dread the film version. I think I will wait until Elaine has seen it before I book a babysitter. She is another LoEG fan and has similar enough tastes in films that I can base the when to see it off of her. I will see it eventually, but as we need a babysitter to go to the cinema (or take it in turns) I have to choose which films I see very carefully.

Now that I've read, I can compare: the two might has well be products of parallel universes for all their commonalities and differences. One major way in which the movie is less dark - no rape scenes implied or shown whatsoever. The movie's not great, but it had some fun things in it. The scenes in Venice were just whacky. Whether you should see it or not, I leave that up to the judgement of your friend. It's a mostly entertaining but quite problematic movie all by itself, without even adding in comparison to the graphic novel. Still, for various reasons, I'm glad I've seen it.
