This isn't a hurricane, but it's as close as I've seen one here. It's still a tropical storm. The winds are strong and sustained, and the rain has been pouring down since somewhen in the night with no sign of abatement. The eye of the storm is due to pass over us - or might even be around nearing or leaving now for all I know. The power is still on, I don't see any fallen tree limbs out the window, and a whole work day at home (for a change!) awaits me.

The bit of Canada that I'm in is part of the greater east coast - so the hurricane - or what's left of it - passed through Virginia, New York, and on across Toronto. It's missing Iowa completely.

I didn't know it moved that fast. Amazing what happens when you sleep for ten hours.

Sleep is powerful stuff.

I always like how it does things like make aches, pains, and sicknesses magically go away.

Glad to hear the hurricane is losing steam. I've been enjoying the enthusiastic reporting from stupid reporters on TV, though. Nice while it lasted, anyway. ^-^;;

I'm at home all day today, too! Isn't it glorious?

I just talked to my sister, who's in DC. She works for the government, which is closed today. But the weather there is gorgeous, she says, 70s, clear blue sky, pleasant breeze. A good day to have off!

The best bit about being at home is how easy it is to take breaks... but also how easy it is to work without any externally-imposed distractions. If I'm distracted here, I have only myself to blame.

Which means I have only myself to blame for goofing off instead of doing my reading now?? ;) Yeah, I know this. But, it's so pleasant to be able to read what I want, and to spend time online without feeling guilty. I'll get to work soon enough. ^-^;;

Exactly. And what reading I have done today made me feel very efficient indeed - since it introduced me to an entirely new (to me) and very important topic which I need to discuss in my dissertation and since it's entirely new, it's much easier to write about than topics I've already trodden on to some degree.
