Ever since I didn't go to the International Medieval Congress at Leeds this year, I've been dreaming of going back to Leeds. Without my yearly trip there, I didn't know when I would next be able to eat at my favorite restaurant in England; try more of Leeds's wonderful culinary options; visit [livejournal.com profile] purple_pen; sidetrip to see the York crowd. I've been wondering when I would be back for the past two months.

And yesterday, I found out - for yesterday, I somewhat unexpectedly went to Leeds. Only all I did there was wait for twenty minutes and then catch a train away from Leeds, as it was the most expeditious route from London to Liverpool, by way of another city beginning with L. I didn't get to do any of the things I wanted to do in Leeds while there, but technically, I was there.

I think this is the largest event I've ever been to in which nothing happened.

Photos, a giant spider, huge crowds, and nothing happening... )

Location: 40 Hope Street, Liverpool, about halfway between the two cathedrals, in the Hope Street Hotel

A really good wild mushroom and shallot risotto... )

Service was friendly and usually helpful, ambiance was pleasant, and as hotel restaurants go, it's mighty fine. Overall, it serves classy comforts, improving on classics more than blatantly innovating, and that's okay. It's accessible enough to be a good local restaurant, if you had the budget for it.
