The bedroom has been stripped of furniture. The dresser is outside on the deck, soaking up the humidity, along with the base for the bed. (Actually... I really hope the dresser doesn't soak up the base for the bed. That would be inconvenient.) Everything else has been tucked or crammed into some corner of the main part of the apartment.

It looks like it's just as well I wasn't planning on doing anything today which involved leaving the house. The landlady said the carpet people would be here at 8 and now it's 9. Assuming I can work with the carpet people here - and assuming they come - today will be that rare treasure, a day entirely devoted to dissertation work.

I need to clear out our bedroom, too, so that we can re-paint the ceiling in there. I keep finding reasons not to do it, but perhaps I should take advantage of the chance to do it while John is away. I'll use the fact that you are bedroom-furniture-free as inspiration. Thanks for giving me the push I need!

Um, I hope the fact that your dresser soaked up the base for the bed doesn't distract you from, um, dissert-ing.

One advantage to having John present is that many pieces are furniture are easier to move when there are two people available to move them.

Don't worry. I'm sure the dresser-soaking will be the least of my distrations today.

Perversely, I feel mildly sentimental about the carpet being ripped up. I should at least have had a party in the last week. After all, if there was ever a good time for accidentally spilling red wine on a carpet, it would be right before it was going to be replaced.
