It didn't specifically say there was a shortage of chickens (although that probably is the real question).

I was wishfully thinking the chickens weren't coming by because of a shortage of grain. If the supermarket was low on grain, the chickens really wouldn't have any reason to stop by, I would think.

I quite agree, although I've found chickens enjoy fresh produce as well.

Perhaps a shortage of both grain and produce?

I don't know that many chickens, so am not as familiar with their dietary preferences as perhaps I should be. Still, it makes sense that a chicken with a well-balanced diet would like to consume fresh produce.

The supermarket really must have been having a bad day if they were shy of both grain and produce. I hope they get Sunday deliveries.

Having once made the acquaintance of my grandmother's chicken-friends, I realized that an attractive diet for chickens absolutely must include a range of foods, from greens to grain.

Without Sunday deliveries, you may be without avian visitors for quite some time. A truly tragic occurrence...how would you ever cope?

Poultry patronage might come to a grinding halt...chickens might start protesting in the streets.

The horror!

We can only pray that your supermarket rapidly stocks up on chicken-friendly products, lest all-out armageddon strikes.

Maybe the supermarket is trying to appeal to other segments of the population, and this is just a clever way not to accidentally kill of its poultry patrons while trying to test a limited expansion into the racoon and fox market?

Hmm... I'll have to keep an eye out for who else is shopping there next time I do groceries.

I had always thought raccoons preferred outlawry and scavenging to sedate bourgeois shopping...but I suppose that in the current economic climate even such free spirits must make concessions.

Beware of foxes in chickens' clothing.
