I've read a few of JV Jones' books -- Bakers Boy, Barbed Coil, Cavern of Black Ice and Fortress of Grey Ice. To be honest, the former was so long ago that all I can remember about it was that it seemed a rather workman like book -- moderately well put together, but no flair, no new twists on pretty much standard plots and plot devices. The last two in my list are slightly better -- it's in a different section of the world and the communities she is working with are quite well fleshed out. A moderate level of gore (higher than, say, Hobb, but lower than Erikson). The one thing that irritated me about these two books was the fact that they seemed... hurried... 50 pages or so from the end, things suddenly started happening, as though she'd just realised that she needed to complete the plot before she ran out of binding space.

The Barbed Coil I quite enjoyed -- pacing was right, it hung together quite well and resolved neatly -- not too many loose ends.

Glad you had a good time on your visit, Rhys, Caroline and their daughter say hello :-)

Colin, you're letting the side down -- *dancing*? I'm shocked... nay, mortified... ;-)
