Happy April! It's hard to believe it's April already.
More importantly, I wonder what news there will be to distrust - or vapidly believe - today...
Update: My favorite so far is an LOTR one. (Thanks,

Strange, free-floating discontent
I don't know what I'm expecting. That tomorrow everyone will wake up and say, "What the grand high holy hell are we doing?!?! Let's get the bombs out of here and bring in crates and crates of food and baby formula and toys and Prozac instead!!!" Not all that likely, and probably not all that helpful, if it were to happen.
Why aren't any solutions to the world's problems miraculously popping into my head? Or better still, into the head of someone in a position to really DO something?
Re: Strange, free-floating discontent
My favorite April Fool's Day news item was one NPR did, at least 10 years ago now. Canada had bought Arizona from the US so it could have a southern harbor. Since it was NPR, they really could get people like the Secretary of State, an Arizonan Senator, and ranking Canadian politicians to comment favorably on the situation.
Solutions to the world's problems do pop into the heads of leaders all the time. The problem is, not all of us necessarily agree with what constitutes a solution to a given problem, and it is a rare politician who has the vision to accurately see the repercussions to their actions much beyond their term of office, and yet will still choose to act on those with short term consequences lousy for their chances at re-election.
Holy Misunderstanding, Batman!!!!!!!
I liked the BBC story on the spaghetti harvest in Switzerland : )
News!
Ps: April Fools (duh!)

I also considered sending an Email to my friend who's visitng next week to say that, what with SARS, all arrivals at Vancouver were being forced into 2 weeks quarantine (which would effectively mean he turned up, stayed in quarantine for 2 weeks, and then went home again). Possibly something else, all UK arrivals must produce evidence of their latest CJD vaccination....the possibilities are endless...
