Five of us stayed up late tonight playing the Lord of the Rings board game. Given it was our first time playing, we did reasonably well, and survived up until we were crushed by orcs at Helm's Deep. It was a good and coherently complicated game. It was a good ending to a rather long, full, and busy day, and involved chocolate cake. Very, very good chocolate cake to tide us through the game.

I've played that! It took me and my friend who owns it something like four tries to beat it, and never managed the feat again.

It's a completely excellent game. Do you have the expanded version (with additional boards for Bree and Isengard)? I saw a game once where everyone got wiped out in Bree, it was awful.

The game absolutely requires co-operation between players, it's the only way to beat it.

I don't remember Bree, so it must not have been the expanded version.

Tamma might not have played with Bree and Isengard, but we did! Happily, we made it all the way to the Shelob's Lair board, safely past Bree and Isengard. Christopher said there is also a Sauron expanded version where someone "gets" to play Sauron and there're extra things for him to do as well.
