This woodcut is pasted up as a grafitto, something which Swoon often does in various contexts. (See, for example, her work for this summer's Philagrafika.) I hadn't heard of her before today, but some of what I've now seen of her work is quite engaging, particularly for her use of the physical contexts in which the pieces are pasted.

Is that piece on the way to the corte or campiello del remer, near S Gio: Grisostomo? I saw something very like it in that area and wondered whether it was Swoon's, but it seemed too different from other things I've seen by her.

No, we were coming back from P. Roma. Looking at a map, it was probably the calle which runs on the far side of S. Simeon Piccolo from P. Roma. But that doesn't mean it's not the same woodcut which you saw.

Not signed, but I took [livejournal.com profile] printperson's authority on this one. That doesn't mean it couldn't be someone else's work, of course.

If you have time, satisfy my curiosity: walk past s Gio: Grisostomo (coming from the old PO) and take the calle to your left, calle de la stua. The calle makes a hard right, and there, on your right should be a wdct very like the one you photoed. As a lagnappe, if you continue, you'll be in the campiello del remer, which has a lovely early 13C facade on the piano nobile, above and behind you, partly hidden behind the gothic stairs.

Looks the same to me! I wonder if there are more of them scattered around the city somewhere?

The campiello del remer really is a lovely one! We caught the light of sunset under the Rialto from the dock there.

Good question. I'm glad my memory wasn't wholly off, though it looks like the last couple of months -- not to mention people with spray cans -- haven't been kind to the woodcut.
