There's been exciting news in the last day: Tricia Sullivan will be Guest of Honour at Eastercon 2012! The next Vector, in honor of Diana Wynne Jones, is out! And oddness: BBC News occasionally defaulting to July 23rd, causing me to briefly panic that Norway was being shot at *again*. (It wasn't just me. It happened to [livejournal.com profile] sioneva too. And therefore, presumably lots of other people.)

But rather than discussing these at greater length, I was reading Restaurant magazine this morning and now feel compelled to give you a poll about chervil.

[Poll #1792464]

I still think of Chervil as a rabbit from Watership Down... :)

I thought - for once, surely I have covered all the options in this poll. But no. I failed to provide you with a rabbit option.

It's mostly covered by the last option :) There's always something missing. ewx always includes a "That's not funny, that happened to me grandma :( option" anywhere it would be sufficiently ridiculous, although now I want to use "wasn't that a rabbit in WD" as the default "other" option :)

I considered posting a separate poll - Chervil: Herb or Rabbit?

But 1) it reminded me too much of "Cheese or Font?" and 2) I'm sure Chervil means something else yet again to someone else, and I would be excluding them.

I would've gone with the rabbit option.

I haven't actually used chervil since I last had a garden (more than ten years now). I don't think I've ever seen it for sale.

You can anything 'on' a dish if it's a garnish, but if you're cooking with it, then it's 'in'.

That was, in fact, part of the speaker's point. In the roundtable discussion, they were on the subject of garnishes. But it made me wonder more widely.

I've never used it, but I've seen it in recipes and in my grocery store.

It's one of those aniseedy herbs for which there are a lot of substitutes.

Oddly enough, last week I cooked with chervil for the first time in years (a rather good spanakopita, if you want to know).

I can't see why you wouldn't use chervil; it doesn't taste like parsley, and it doesn't taste like fennel, but somewhere in between.

Where's the "I thought chervil couldn't survive long outside of it's native goat cheese habitat" option?
