It's an image of a later edition of the poem I was trying to track down back in November, this one ordered from the Marciana. Between the two editions, I should be able to make reasonable decipherment of the text.
I spent an hour browsing the Dante section of the main library. It's good to have an excuse to work on something Dantesque again, but being in that row of books reminded me - like Shakespeare, Dante isn't a subject, he's a discipline unto himself. I'll need to consult my undergraduate advisor as to which translation to quote from. I need a good, authoritative, respected, scholarly English translation, since I don't want to presume everyone on my committee reads Italian.
A flurry of snow came and went and came back again today. Tonight's meant to be bitterly cold and very windy. I'm glad I'm indoors.

As for Dante... It must be so nice to be able to read him in Italian. I play with the Italian version, but I bet when you really know where the stresses go and how the old Italian was pronounced it's even more beautiful. I've always "Lasciate ogne speranza vio ch'intrate" sounds more hell-like (all those sssssss sounds and harsh word endings!) than "abandon all hope, ye who enter here."
Not to mention the fact that, my Italian being stinky, I miss ALL the beet references...
The joys of root vegetables
(A creeping suspicion tells me you meant to write 'best' but I like 'beet' better. It's a much more exciting subject. You know, for all the books which have been written on Dante and things Dantesque, there's a decent chance that the one on root vegetables hasn't been published yet.)
On the microfilm: Yes, yes I do! My mother ordered it for me, but at my request, so mostly that just saved me filling out paperwork. It's a rather emptyish one since there are only about 12 pages on it - the booklet wasn't any longer than that.

See, this why I fret over my inability to organize information. If I can't even remember my own jokes, how on earth am I going to remember that I even looked up useful references to a given subject at some point in the past?
