Just a question: Why do they mine rust? Surely that's freely available on old cars?

The name is pretty funny! Hull, Rust, and Mahoning are all last names.

Looks like they're almost ready to blast another level down. Much more and they'll need to pump water out.

At some point in the past, when they stopped mining this part of the site, this part filled in with water, a good 300 feet or so of it. Now, years later, they've pumped lots of that water out and only have a couple hundred feet of it in the deepest parts of the dig. This is only a small part of the overall mining site, so presumably other parts were mined in the interim.
