In honor of ten years of being together, C. and I went away last weekend to England's smallest county, Rutland. Its largest liquid landmark is Rutland Water, a reservoir flooded over farmland in the 1970s, creating an expansive body of water perfect for watersports. On this slightly nippy November afternoon, the reservoir was thronged at one end with sailers, rowers, and windsurfers. It was still tranquil though, space enough for all of us.
