Hope

Hope sets the stamp of vanity on all
that men have deem'd substantial since the fall,
yet has the wondrous virtue to educe
from emptiness itself a real use;
and, while she takes, as at a father's hand,
what health and sober appetite demand,
from fading good derives, with chemic art,
that lasting happiness, a thankful heart.

From William Cowper, "Hope". Lines 153-160.

Go forth, my dissertation. I hope you're done.

I recall laying in the bed at the hospital in labor with Emma..it was a rough pregnancy, I was nearing the end of 24 hours of back labor, and I was exhausted. I just wanted her OUT. They could have reached in and grabbed her, for all I cared at that point, all else could be dealt with later, OUT was the only thing that mattered to me.

I imagine you feel very much now like I did then. You pushed the baby out, darlin', have some champagne and something sinful to go with it and revel in the fact that you will never have to arrange for a sitter for this 'child'. ;)
