The furnace has been off for over twenty-four hours now, and there's a noticable chill in the air. A repairperson is due to come this morning at some point. I'm eagerly looking forward to their arrival and hope that it'll be a straightforward repair job.

Meanwhile, I treasure warmth where I find it. The "Wild Caribbean Chili" I made last night warmed me with jalanpeƱos, chili, and stove-heat. Polar fleece is a wonderful invention. I'm endlessly grateful I bought a pair of cozy warm slippers at the One-of-a-Kind show in December, because, for a rarity, my feet have been warmer than the rest of me a consequence. My computer doubles as a finger and nose warmer - which makes more sense if you know it's resting on a foot and a half of academic journals in order to have the screen at eye level. I have lamps turned on for both light and their minor contribution of radiant heat. At least I still have plenty of hot water!

Update: It's just before noon and the heat is back on! Hurray! A safety switch failed, so the whole thing stopped working. Happily, the repair was easily done. It'll be a while before the house is warm again but the temperature is finally heading in the right direction!
