Here's a lesson from our winter vacation in the challenges of designing a good parking lot. Communicate clearly. The elegant white squares on the ground are meant to delineate parking spaces, with space to drive all around the edges.



It's been frosty here for the past week-or-so, with a few days in which we didn't even break freezing (which is very cold by local standards). It's been beautiful, when not monotonously grey: frost riming tree branches and leaves; quieting fog; light falls of snow.
