We walked up to St. James Park, past Buckingham Palace, and had lunch at Inn the Park. Then to see the Houses of Parliament and the Big Ben clock tower without. My initial thought had been to continue up Whitehall to Trafalgar Square, but instead we went Thameside to see the London Eye from beneath. Then to the British Museum, where we stopped long enough to see the old reading room, the Rosetta stone, and the Elgin marbles. And that was it. It's an interesting challenge: given two hours, what to show a first-time visitor to London.
