From the comments in reply to the BBC's obituary for floppy disks:

Alas, dear floppy, I loved you well -
Now Dell's bells doth sound thy knell.
Yet all things pass as all things must:
The humble floppy bytes the dust.

It's been hailing for the past several hours, a very fine hail, which has accumulated like snow, a full inch of it, but still hurts in little flecks when it hits my skin. At least I didn't need to spend too much time outside in it. It's still going strong. It looks like winter again outside.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] makyo, who introduced me to it, I used up the entirety of yesterday evening reading the comic PhD. It's a weekly comic about life as a graduate student, one which has been running since '97. I found it absorbing, funny, and very true. It has a certain amount of long-term plot development, but I think it would be quite accessible if you just wanted to take a look at a few of them. I recommend it.

A friend of mine, Kuomori, is in an article on cosplay in today's Boston Globe, in a very photogenic costume! This just goes to show that you can achieve some degree of fame from good outfit-making if not, say, fortune.

(Cosplay is dressing up like a favorite television or comic character, especially from anime.)
