I don't like leaving places. It almost doesn't matter where I am. I'm easily attached to places, and none more so than home. Still, my schoolwork calls, and there's only so much of it I can do while at home, currently. I need to go back and buy more bookshelves, organize my papers, and generally take advantage of having a few more days of holiday from Latin and my jobs. And I've been lucky - the weather has cooperated with my entire trip! The snowstorm hit the midwest after I had already arrived, and the weather is due to be very nice indeed tomorrow, here, and clear along the rest of my flight path as far as I know.

Today felt very, very productive: I worked through many dissertation-relevant books, had my teeth cleaned, and spent time outside in the relative warmth and still-spectacular snow (although no longer a patch on what the east coast has).

So, Google bought Blogger... I'll have to think about that bit of news. I'm still not quite sure what to make of it.

Pyra/Blogger's been sold to Google and Altavista's been sold to a marketing firm, all in a day. The goal of the Altavista acquisition is, essentially, to bias the search engine in favor of the companies which the marketing agency promotes. Yes, that'll really encourage more casual users to return to it... Altavista's been on the wane for a while, but offhand, it's hard to see how this particular move will help the Altavista brand, much as I can see the benefits for Overture.

And now Reuters is firing 3000 people, due to large losses. Yes, yes, I know, it's not a search engine, but it feeds the news components of many of them.
