A current Salon article discusses recent changes in FBI wiretapping abilities, and the means by which the FCC recently fell in line with the FBI's requests after they were overturned about a year ago. At least the UK's wiretapping privilege legislation has currently falllen by the wayside. (And why exactly do firefighters - to name one example - need to listen in on conversations again? Fire prevention?)
